Spell the small scales

Careful here — the one-letter-each rule you just learned is for SEVEN-note scales. These scales are different.

Pentatonics have five notes, so they simply skip two letters entirely. C major pentatonic is C, D, E, G, A — no F and no B anywhere. That is normal and correct.

The blues scale goes further: it uses one letter twice. C blues is C, E♭, F, G♭, G, B♭ — a G♭ AND a G. The flat 5th is a passing note squeezed in beside the real 5th, so both share the letter G.
